I have two grown children, a daughter here in Greenville and a son overseas in the Marine Corp. I have a dog named Charlie (a girl) who is great at letting me know when strangers or the FedEx truck go by, but leaves the room if she hears a fly buzzing around!

I love teaching Project Lead the Way classes at Sterling/CTC. The principles behind the curriculum - encouraging students to solve problems, to be independent thinkers, to learn from what works and what does not, to experience success individually and as part of a team, to draw from all available resources, to keep trying until you figure it out - will benefit students throughout their lifetime regardless of how the world changes. PLTW courses help students develop soft skills sought out by employers -
effective communication - professionally conveying thoughts and ideas in all formats, empathetic listening, negotiation, persuasion, teamwork, respect for others, resolving conflict, giving and receiving constructive criticism, questioning
critical thinking and problem solving - learning to observe and notice details, abnormalities, patterns; practice logical thinking, incorporate creativity and innovation, research skills, troubleshooting, decision making
resiliency - success through failure, a "can do" attitude, flexibility, self-motivation, stress management
a growth mindset - knowledge of strengths and weaknesses, desire to learn, accepting challenges, positivity
work ethic - dedication, responsibility, quality, following directions, goal-setting, meeting deadlines, dependability
most important in today's world: adaptability - functioning in times of change and uncertainty.
Thank you for trusting me with your children. I believe they will enjoy the challenge and camaraderie involved in solving ill-structured, real-world problems.
