Teacher:

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The following art supplies may be used:
Crayons, Markers, Colored Pencils, Oil Pastels, Watercolor, Tempera Paint, Ink, Collage Materials, Yarn, Glue, Printmaking Materials, Chromebooks, and etc.
ASSESSMENTS
Students will be observed for participation in class and demonstration of skills being taught each day when they come to class. Students who miss all or portions of class time due to behavior will receive a substandard grade for that day.
MAJOR ASSESSMENTS: The students in my class will be evaluated on the following
criteria:
1. Teacher observation of active class participation (Doing your personal best).
2. Meeting the state art education standards.
3. Following directions and positive social interaction.
4. In-class written and skills based assessments.
GRADING SCALE
All students will be graded using an “M” which means meeting standards, or a “P” which means progressing toward standards. Grades are based on student participation and knowledge of any art goals of skills taught in class. Student grades will be updated at progress reports and report cards.
RULES AND PROCEDURES
Students will explore the rules and procedures during the
first days of school and will be allowed to ask questions and give input into the class rules.
ART ROOM RULES
A. Act Responsibly! Make good decisions. Your actions affect others.
R. Respect! Yourself, others, materials.
T. Try Your Best! Try, try again, keep trying.
I. Imagination is Key! Imagination + Creativity= ART
S. Stay Seated! Raise your hand. Wait patiently.
T. Talk quietly. Voice level at a ONE. Focus on your work.
EXPECTATIONS FOR BEHAVIOR
1. Always do your personal best.
2. Respect yourself and others.
3. Treat all art supplies with care.
CONSEQUENCES
1. If a student violates any of the rules they will be asked to sit in time-out and think about their behavior and why it was wrong.
2. If a student continues to break the rules, the Art Educator will notify their teacher. Continued rule violations occur, the Art Educator will notify their parents with a phone call.
3. If a student violates the rules severely, such as fighting or endangering another student, they will immediately be sent to the office and written up on a referral.
REWARD SYSTEM
Individual Plan- Students who have exhibited excellent behavior and are encouraging others as they work will receive rewards such as teacher praise, group recognition, stickers, and notes home. Students will also be chosen to help the teacher and/or assist other students during class as a reward for cooperative behavior.
Whole Class Plan- At the end of each Art class, each class has an opportunity to earn a STAR based on their class's overall performance in following directions, participating fully, and showing good teamwork that week. At the end of each nine weeks, the class scoring the most STARS will receive a class party.
STUDENT PROCEDURES FOR NON-INSTRUCTIONAL ROUTINES
Since the art room does not have a restroom, students will be allowed to use the restroom and get water in emergencies only. A doctor's note must be submitted to the office for frequent restroom permissions during art. Classroom teachers and I will review restroom expectations frequently for students to use the restroom with their classroom teacher before or after art. They will be expected to come into the art room quietly and sit down without touching any of the art materials and supplies set up on their tables. The homeroom teacher will drop off and pick up students from class.
COMMUNICATION
Parental Communication will be done in a variety of ways. Phone calls, personal contact, notes, and letters that will be sent home will all inform the parent/guardian of how his/her child is doing in school. My art education webpage will also be updated to include any new developments, digital learning assignments when necessary, and all upcoming events.
