About Your Teachers

Mr. Macdonald

I am originally from London, United Kingdom. This is my second year teaching World History at Carolina High School. I am also a coach. I have been coaching for 20 years. I have coached in South Carolina, Georgia, Colorado and England

"Young players need freedom of expression to develop as creative players... they should be encouraged to try skills without fear of failure. "

Ms. Egan

I'm a transplant from New York City and Long Island but have fallen in love with the Upstate of South Carolina and have been here for about 21 years now. This is home! I graduated from St. Joseph's College in New York with my B.A. in English with a Secondary Education minor and taught for two years before settling down to raise and home school my six beautiful children (who have now grown to include a son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandson, and can't-wait-to-meet-her granddaughter). I love each of my kids, including the 90-something with whom I share life for 180 days this year here at Carolina. In my free time (Ha!), I do like to ride bikes, relax at the beach and in the mountains, read everything, and just kind of sit around on the back patio watching the sun rise and set and the moon and stars at night :)

"Love never fails."

Miss Compton

This is my first year teaching at Carolina, and I am loving co-teaching with Mr. Kellett as we build relationships with students and dive into project-based learning. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literary Studies from Roanoke College in Virginia. In 2016, I moved to New Zealand, the far-off land of hobbits and happiness, where I earned a Master of Teaching and Learning in secondary education. I am originally from Charleston and just moved to Greenville this past August. I am the oldest of four, and I am very tight with my family, affectionately referred to as the Compton Clan. My favorite thing to do in my free time is to hike and camp in the mountains, so I’m excited that trails are a lot closer to me than they were in the Lowcountry! I also like to travel (mainly dirtbag backpacking style), run, dance, read, write, cook healthy food, watch movies, and spend time with friends. Some of my top life philosophies are to be the best you can be, roll with it, be real and honest, and rest in and extend grace to others.

"You do not need to know precisely what is happening or where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment and to embrace them with courage, faith, and hope."

-Thomas Merton

Mr. Kellett

I was born and raised right here in the Upstate of South Carolina (Fountain Inn, to be exact) and have lived in the area for most of my life. I am a graduate of Furman University (GO PALADINS!) and the University of South Carolina (GO GAMECOCKS!). I like to get outside in nature with my family whenever I have a chance and I also like to cook, play guitar, and watch movies and football. It is my goal this year to make Humanities the favorite class of all our students.

“Freethinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without prejudice and without fearing to understand things that clash with their own customs, privileges, or beliefs. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking...”
