About the Teacher

Meet Mrs. Cole

Hello and greetings from Room 101! I grew up in a family of educators and promised myself I would never be a teacher. I spent long hours "helping" in my mom's first grade classroom while also visiting the art teacher down the hall to borrow books she kept hidden in the cabinet under the sink. I think it was there that I became a reader. She always kept the cabinet stocked with the latest installment of The Saddle Club and I truly believed she also read these for fun. We'd talk about the characters and the latest drama ever unfolding. After toying with the idea of being a scientist, the first female president, an artist, a horse jockey, and a writer, I quickly found myself graduating high school and on my way to college to become a teacher--imagine that! The realization that I could impact young children to believe they could do and be anything their heart desired propelled me into finding my true purpose... in the classroom. The bottom picture on the right is always a comforting thought to me as I continue along this journey of seeking knowledge, wisdom, and skills. I want all my students to look back one day and say a teacher helped them find their purpose!

After finishing my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at Furman University in 2006, I continued into a 5th year Masters program to obtain my Masters of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. I taught half of a year in third grade and three years of second grade before finding my way into first grade, just as my mom taught and just as I promised myself I would never teach! I absolutely love it. This will be my ninth year teaching 1st grade and my thirteenth year in education. It is by far my favorite age because there is boundless curiosity and infinite creativity! I am so excited to be at Monarch for a sixth year and look forward to working with a great team of teachers. We have some awesome projects planned this year and I can't wait to get started.

When I am not at school, I enjoy gardening, reading, cooking, or traveling. My husband and I are proud parents to our golden retrievers Maggie and Payton. Thank you for visiting my site and I look forward to working with you to make this year the best for your child!
