Welcome to Fisher Middle School!
I'm extremely excited to be working with you this year in such an incredibly innovative environment for learning. This will be my twentieth year teaching and my eighth year at Fisher Middle School. I have taught math and PLTW engineering previously at Wade Hampton, Mauldin HS, NEXT HS, and JL Mann HS in the New Tech program. I'm a certified PLTW teacher in Design & Modeling, Green Architecture, Automation & Robotics, Intro to Engineering, Principles of Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering. In the summertime, I facilitate a 3D Design camp and VEX Robotics camp at Roper Mountain Science Center. I love to teach and serve our community.
I've been a VEX robotics coach for the last 8 years and have helped students make it to the VEX World Robotics Championships for the last 5 years. Coaching robotics is a joy and also a passion of mine.
In 2020-2021, I was awarded the Teacher of the Year for Fisher Middle School and was a top 10 Teacher of the Year Finalists for the Greenville County School District. I was also awarded the STEM Educator of Year Finalist award for the state of South Carolina.
I graduated from USC Upstate with a B.S. in Secondary Education Mathematics and received my masters (M.A.) in Technology in Education from Lesley University. I also have been a member of the Greenville County Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCCTM) since 2005. Currently I am the past president of the GCCTM organization.
Also, I've been apart of the Inquiry in Motion program for Improving the motivation, potential, and achievement of students and teachers through sustained engagement in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math(STEAM). My core philosophy in education revolves around inquiry and incorporating STEAM connections.
I love traveling, reading, going the the beach, biking, hiking, swimming, running, photography, technology, and finding new educational tools. I have a beautiful wife and 3 amazing daughters. We also have a loving Golden Doodle puppy named Chase.
My goal is to inspire our youth and empower them with the knowledge and thinking skills to IMPACT not only their community but also future generations. I have the goal to teach and connect STEM subjects to the world students live in. I believe using a PBL approach will prepare and enable students with the thinking processes to become well equipped for college, career, and civic life. This is a model I believe in, and the PBL research shows that it works.
I'm looking forward to making a difference in the lives of all my students. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Be well and go Firebirds!
