Major Assessments: K-5
Students are assessed each time they come to Physical Education class. The primary form of assessment is teacher observation based on performance cues presented during the lesson. Skill assessments will be used at all grade levels.
All students in grades 3-5th will be given a health-related fitness test (Fitnessgram) during the months of September and April. The four areas of fitness to be evaluated are: cardiovascular endurance (Pacer test), abdominal strength (curl-ups), flexibility (Back-Saver Sit & Reach test), and upper body strength (push-ups). Please encourage your child to work daily on these areas of fitness.
Grading scales K-5:
Meets Standard (M): Students are up to par and meet basic requirements for their age level.
Progressing (P): Students need to improve one or more physical education standards to meet fitnessgram standards criteria.
Students’ Fitnessgram reports will be sent home, to fifth grade parents, twice yearly. Also, positive postcards will be sent home to parents for deserving students.
