Hello, families- Welcome to Kindergarten!
My name is Mary Catherine Young and I am so excited about being your child’s teacher this year. I love Oakview and I am thrilled to be a part of this outstanding community. Since we will be working together this year I want to take some time to introduce myself and tell you a little more about me.
I was born and raised in Athens, GA and I come from a long line of UGA Bulldawgs. I went against the grain and attended Clemson University where I obtained my Early Childhood Education Degree. I completed my student teaching in kindergarten right here in the upstate in Anderson County. My blood runs orange and purple but I still cheer for my Dawgs (except when they play the Tigers!).
After graduating I taught second grade in Georgia for several years, and after getting married I moved to Florida and taught first grade. My husband and I moved from Florida to Waynesboro, GA where we lived for four years. Both of my children were born there and we made the decision for me to step away from the classroom to be a full time mom for a while. While living in Georgia I obtained my master’s degree in Reading Education from Georgia Southern University. We moved to Greenville in 2013 and are proud to call this home.
When my daughter began kindergarten here at OES, I became very active in the school as room coordinator, SIC member and chair, PTA board member, Book Fair co-chair, reading tutor and kindergarten long term substitute. I have seen from the inside out what a remarkable school this is and I am thrilled to be starting my seventh year on staff as a kindergarten teacher.
Both of my children have come through Oakview and had the most amazing experiences. My daughter is a freshman at JL Mann and my son is in 6th grade at Beck Academy. While I am sad that my time as a parent here is complete, I know that Oakview prepared my kiddos well for their next steps.
I am so looking forward to helping your child learn and grow this year. I know kindergarten can be an intimidating time for both students and parents and I will do my very best to make it as smooth, fun, and beneficial as possible. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns; I am here to help! Let’s have a great year together!
