Grading in Elementary General Music:

Standards based grading allows a "snapshot" for teachers to communicate home and officially document where a child's ability is at the end of the quarter for a particular skill.

M - Meeting the standards

P - Progressing toward standards

Each unit (quarter) in music, your child will be assessed on a specific set of skills and abilities through a pretest (baseline score) and post test (final skill display that shows growth).  Longer units of study will also include a mid-point check in assessment.

Please see the syllabus page for a detailed breakdown on what elements and skills we are focusing on each unit/ quarter.

Each child will learn at his or her own unique pace.

Music skill expectations will continue to grow and become more challenging from year to year.  (Consider a baby learning to crawl, then walk, and one day ride a bike. Each skill becomes increasingly more complicated then the last.  In music, as students master basic skills, the level of difficulty will increase.)
