Economics and Personal Finance CP Course Syllabus
Teacher: Mr. Holliday
This is a half-unit social studies course required for graduation. By definition, economics is the study of how individuals and societies/ nations make choices on ho to use scarce resources to satisfy needs and wants. In Economics and personal finance, the student will learn the basic economic concepts, components essential to financial literacy, the microeconomic principles of supply, demand, market equilibrium, shortages, surpluses, and market structures, and macroeconomic principles such as business cycles, the labor force, and GNP/GDP, etc.
Unit 1: Economic Concepts
Unit Compelling Question: How does scarcity and choice impact decisions made at the local, state, national, and global levels? How does self-interest and incentives determine the allocation of resources
Standard 1: Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental economic concepts at an individual, business, and governmental level.
2 Unit 2: Financial Literacy
Unit Compelling Question: How does planning for the future impact a person’s standard of living?
Standard 2: Demonstrate an understanding of how scarcity and choice influence individual financial decisions.
Unit 3:Microeconomics
Unit Compelling Question: How do changes in demand, supply, and the level of competition in various market structures affect price and output levels for consumers and profit levels for producers?
Standard 3: Demonstrate an understanding of basic microeconomic principles.
Unit 4: Macroeconomics
Unit Compelling Question: How do economic indicators allow the government to stabilize the economy?
Standard 4: Demonstrate an understanding of basic macroeconomic principles.
Materials Needed
Charged Chrome Book
A three-ring binder with paper. Dividers will assist with organization.
Pens and/or pencils
Grading
Major Grades=60% of quarter average
Minor Grades will consist of 40% of quarter grade
The quarter grade is 90% of the final grade.
The final exam is 10% of the final grade.
