Meet the Counselor

My name is Cassy Mengering—"Mrs. M" for short—and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker with over six years of experience helping children and families navigate mental health challenges, stressors, and barriers to support in Greenville County. I hold both a bachelor's and master's degree in social work from Winthrop University. Go Eagles! My professional experience includes social services, foster care, community mental health, school social work, and hospital case management. This is my fourth year as a school mental health counselor and second year at Blythe Academy. 🐻

I love the collaborative nature of working in a school setting and engaging in our community. It is truly a privilege to serve as an advocate, cheerleader, and a safe space for clients through all of life's highs and lows—on sad days, mad days, glad days, and everything in between. Whatever you and your child are going through, you are not alone. 

My approach is:

🧠 Client-centered and strengths-based, empowering students and families to build upon their existing strengths and improve overall functioning. 

🧠 I use a "big picture" or systems theory to view student well-being as influenced by multiple factors, looking at all the different interconnected parts of their lives to help them get the support they need. 

🧠 I enjoy using play-based interventions and creating a comforting environment that is tailored to your child's unique needs and interests. 

Trainings and Certifications:

🧠 I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trauma-focused interventions, and solution-focused techniques.

🧠 I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and ASIST Suicide Intervention.

I am originally from the Myrtle Beach area and moved to Greenville in 2019. My husband and I have a fur baby named Raven (see photo 🐾) and enjoy exploring downtown with her on weekends. I'm originally a Gamecock fan who married into a Clemson family. On Sundays, we cheer for the Commanders! 🏈 In my free time, you can find me browsing a thrift store, listening to live music, journaling, indulging in my latest crafting interest, or hunting Pokémon cards. Mimikyu, Gengar, and Eevee are my favorite! I'm a lifelong learner and lover of the beach, bugs, and how our brains work. 🧩
