Important Dates for Rising 6th Graders:
*Beck Academy (Magnet) - Magnet Open House: October 16, 2025 from 5:30-7pm. More info is available via their magnet website. See Magnet Academies flyer below.
5th Grade Tours - Feb. 9, 10, or 11th from 10:30-12:30pm - Call the front office at Beck Academy to RSVP for a date. Please let Tracy Moore, attendance clerk in the Bell's front office, know if you will be taking your child to attend so the tardy can be excused!

*Greer Middle - Curriculum Night: January 13, 2026 from 5:30-6:15pm. Families will learn about course options and district requirements for specific programs. You’ll also hear from Administration and the Counseling Department and have time to ask questions. *Hillcrest Middle School - Students zoned for or interested in attending Hillcrest may join our field trip to tour Hillcrest on Feb. 13th, 2026 (this is the newly rescheduled date!)
Hillcrest Family Curriculum Night - Due to the weather, our Rising 6th Grade Curriculum Night presentations at Hillcrest Middle School were canceled. We’ve put together recorded videos for students and families to watch anytime. The 6th Grade Video shares information about all of the classes offered to 6th graders, along with helpful middle school tips about routines, procedures, and other important information. The video includes contact info for support staff and a Google Form for any follow-up questions. You can also watch the presentations again anytime on the Hillcrest Middle School Counselors Website under 2026-2027 Course Information tab.

*Mauldin Middle - Student Led School Tours - February 11 or 12th 2026 at 9:15am. *Riverside Middle - Students zoned for or interested in attending Riverside may join our field trip to tour Riverside on Wednesday Feb. 4th, 2026 (weather permitting).
Rising 6th grade Parent Night - Thurs. Feb. 5th, 2026 - 5:30-7:30pm - Parents will have the opportunity to learn about RMS and plans for the coming year; meet teachers, principals, and counselors; ask questions and explore the building. Additional resources will also be posted on their website including videos of the RMS building as a whole, a tour of the library, teachers speaking on behalf of their grade level subjects, essential arts classes, registration information, etc.
Virtual Parent Registration Overview Meeting - Fri. Feb. 6, 2026 at 12pm - RMS Counselors will share info about schedules, courses, and what to expect with registration. Google Meet info available on RMS Counseling/Registration site
Riverside Community Fest & Family Tours - April 13th, 2026 from 5-7:30pm. They will offer student led tours of the building for students and families, entrance to softball, baseball, and soccer games, music performances, food trucks, games, activities, and more! A sign up will be posted on their website a few weeks prior. See flyer below.

Parent Workshops:
*Middle School Options: Tuesday, October 14, 2025 in the Counselors' Classroom. In this workshop on various middle school options available for your child next year. We will discuss school choice (special permission), magnet programs, charter schools, and how all these application processes work if you would like your child to attend somewhere other than your homebased middle school. We encourage parents to go ahead and be researching potential middle schools, as there are some parent nights and open houses for charter and magnet programs happening before this workshop. This will be a part of our October School Improvement Council Meeting. We hope to see you there!

*5th Grade Registration for middle school will be February 17-20, 2026. This will be done at school with the counselors. Look for an electives sheet to your child's assigned middle school to come home mid-February.
*If you are interested in your child participating in a music program (Band, Strings, or Chorus) next year at their middle school, please view this GCSD Middle School Music website for requirements regarding each school's program.
