What is the Battle of the Books (BOB) ? 

            BOB is a book trivia competition. Members of Beck Academy BOB team are expected to read all 10 books that are on the designated BOB list.  The team will practice twice a week. Then in the spring we will compete in a regional competition with other middle school teams from our area. The competition is a quiz show style contest where 5 team members from 2 different schools go head to head answering trivia questions about the books they have read.  If we win both rounds at our first competition, we get to compete a second night at the district competition. Final dates and location are yet to be determined. 

How do I join the BOB team?

●         To come to our first practice, you must have read 2 BOB books, and have your permission slip signed and returned. The first meeting date will be announced in November. 

●         By January you will need to have 7 of the BOB books read.

●         Our final BOB team consists of 5 students.  A team of 5 alternates will also be selected. These students will take the place of any student on the main team who is unable to attend the final competition. These teams decided by the middle of January 2023 The decision will be based on performance during practices, written tests, attitude, how many books you have read, and attendance.

●         Those that make the final team and alternates will be expected to finish all 10 books by the end of February. We will practice twice a week to prepare for our spring competitions.

       All of our practices will be held during school hours. But our competition may be in the evening.  Parents will be responsible for getting their child to and from the regional and district competitions if needed. 

        Once selected for the final team, the entire team is depending on you to be successful. If there are extenuating circumstances that force you to drop out of the competition, you must inform Mrs. Clark in writing of your decision and reason for dropping. This written notice must also be signed by your parent/guardian.

   BOB is a wonderful opportunity for students to read some great literature, meet new friends and be a part of a team.  We work hard but have lots of fun!  Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
