Classroom Management:

In our classroom we use the Responsive Classroom approach. Our classroom rules are connected to students’ and teachers’ goals for social and academic learning.

The primary goals are to:

•Establish a calm, orderly, and safe environment for learning.

•Help children develop self-control and self-discipline.

•Teach children to be responsible, contributing members of a democratic community

•Promote respectful, kind, and healthy teacher-student and student-student interactions.

When a rule is broken the goals are:

  1. Stop the misbehavior as quickly as possible so that the child and classmates can get back to learning.

  2. Teach the child to reflect on and control his or her own behavior.

In our classroom, this looks like:

•Clear & positive language by reminding, redirecting, and reinforcing.

•Logical Consequences

•Special attention to social skills (such as cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, self-control, & empathy)

**Special situations can arise, and these will be worked on together as a school & home team**
