The goal of Physical Education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of physical activity. The purpose of Physical Education is to promote wellness; to provide a release for stress, anxiety, and mental fatigue; and to encourage recreational sports. Physical Education 1 provides opportunities for students to become competent and proficient in two movement forms elected from a variety of choices (selected from: net/racket, target, team, outdoor pursuits, individual, and dance). Students will also be able to design and develop a personalized physical fitness program, participate regularly in health-enhancing physical activity beyond the physical education class, and meet the gender and age group health-related physical fitness standards. The students will also participate in a Sexual Education Curriculum implemented by GCSD county wide during each semester as well as implementation of health related concepts at least once a week; required by the state of South Carolina (Comprehensive Health Act). This course will fully prepare students to build healthy bodies, healthy minds, and healthy futures. PE 1 is required for graduation.
