THE NEXT GENERATION OF STORYTELLERS

Art is powered by story. ARMES (Arts Reaching Elementary and Middle Schools) has a rich history of empowering Greenville's youngest artists to bring those stories to life through dance, theater, music, and visual arts. As of Fall 2018, ARMES also has space for students' whose voices are best expressed through the written word!

ARMES Writing is the newest addition to the Fine Arts Center's after-school programming for gifted elementary and middle school students. In this program, we provide a specialized environment for young authors in grades 3-8 to play with language and develop their writing practices. Chinua Achebe once said that a good writer "doesn't really need to be told anything, except to keep at it." ARMES Writing provides the community, resources, and time necessary for students to do just that: write, then write more, and write again.

The Fine Arts Center of Greenville, SC was established in August of 1974 as the first specialized arts school in the state of South Carolina. Students at the Fine Arts Center are artistically talented and wish to take an intensive pre-professional program of study. Students apply and are selected on the basis of talent, interest, and commitment to their discipline and study. Students are provided advanced comprehensive arts instruction in the areas of architecture, theatre, dance, visual arts, music, creative writing, or digital filmmaking.
