We have a new Curriculum for Skillbuilding which continues the work with grade level standards.. It is designed to help bridge gaps in math learning where needed.
A general goal for all classes is for the students to become more confident with their mathematics skills, connect math to real-world applications, participate in problem solving through group and individual investigations, and develop better communication skills in the area of mathematics. Additional goals are for all students to develop mathematical problem solving skills; to make mathematical connections; and to develop “mathematical power” as a result of acquiring the ability to communicate and reason mathematically. (Adapted from NCTM Standards, South Carolina Mathematics Framework)
More specific goals for classes are that students will become more proficient in their grade level standards:These standards are based on South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards.
Each unit of study will include direct instruction and various classroom activities, homework, and short quizzes. We will work along the same timeline as their grade level math teachers, focusing on the skills they need to bridge gaps. This timeline will be followed as closely as possible; however, adjustments will be made as necessary in order to meet student needs.
