Homework policy:
· Assignments are to be completed by the child, NOT the parent; however it is okay for parents to help their child think through the assignments and to check answers when completed.
· ALL assignments should be completed using neat handwriting.
· Written homework assignments should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. This “time” does not include reading assignments.
Classroom Management Plan:
My goal is to promote positive behavior in my classroom. I will be using a Bucket Filler system. This system goes as follows:
At the beginning of the year we establish “bucket filler” behavior and “bucket dipper” behavior. For every point on Class Dojo they will receive a pom-pom for their bucket. Once the bucket is full they get to choose a reward.
Students are encouraged to follow rules and be kind and respectful to each other. Each child has an individual “bucket”. Their goal is to fill their bucket with pompoms that they earn for “bucket filler” behavior. When a child fills his/her bucket he gets a prize and then dumps his cup into the class bucket. When the class bucket is full, the class has a celebration. My goal is to reinforce positive behavior and build self-esteem students are always given opportunities to make better choices. A behavior chart will be sent home daily in your child’s folder. I will indicate whether your child was a bucket filler or dipper for the day, as well as an explanation of why. This is our form of two-way communication. Please sign each night and return to school the next day in your child’s folder. Working together as partners will help make this a great year in First Grade!
Procedures for non-instructional routines:
· When the bell rings at 7:45, students will into the classroom, unpack and begin working on their morning work (review work).
· Lunch choices will be made before 8:30 and sent to cafeteria.
· Students are free to use the restroom whenever they would like, although not while I’m giving direct instruction unless it is an emergency.
· Students have a work folder where they will place any work they haven’t completed so they can work on it when they have time.
· Any important papers will be sent home in their folders.
Communication:
A folder will be sent home daily that will contain a behavior chart, newsletter, homework, and other important papers. I can be reached by phone at 355-8325 You may leave a message and I will get back with you as soon as possible, usually after school. I can also be reached by e-mail: anbrown@greenville.k12.sc.us. Please do NOT use email to inform me of a change in the way your child will get home that day. I may not be able to check it in time. Call the front office or write a note if there is a change in your child’s transportation. If you write a note, please put it in the return to school pocket of your child’s Daily Folder, so that I will be sure to see it. I will send a newsletter home weekly. If you don’t get one, or lose it, I post it on my website.
Common Core Standards:
A complete listing of standards can be access through the Greenville County School District website, the South Carolina State Department website, and the Common Core website.
