Hello! I'm Amanda Smith and I am so excited to start my fourth year teaching at Wade Hampton in the incredible English Department!
I grew up in a tiny town outside Columbia, called Swansea. I attended Swansea High School and was incredibly devoted to my position as Color Guard Captain on the Swansea Tiger Marching Band. Once I graduated, I took a gap year before I started my Bachelors Degree at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. I studied English and Professional Writing for four years-- some of my favorite years so far! During those years, I figured out I wanted to go into the classroom, so when I graduated, I began my Masters of Arts in Teaching program at Furman University. It was a long and intense year of study, during which I completed my student teaching at J.L. Mann High School. And that brings us up to now!
I am so happy to be teaching at Wade Hampton as I continue my career in education!
As a person in the world, I am very enthusiastic and I laugh a lot-- this definitely translates to my presence in the classroom as well.
I love learning how to cook-- my favorite dish to make is chicken tacos, I love to binge watch tv shows-- I am currently watching Parks and Rec (again), and I love to travel-- my next trip is to New York City! I spend a lot of my time shopping at thrift stores. I live with my four best friends (all of which are involved in education in some way!). I also really really love taking pictures of my favorite people.
This is a link to my Classroom Wishlist if you can/want to contribute to our classroom this semester-- anything is greatly appreciated! I strive to ensure our classroom is comfortable, accessible, and fun for all students!
*I will keep this updated throughout the semester.
I have been published in 7 editions of The Pen, the creative writing and art journal from the University of South Carolina Beaufort
I spent a month in Europe-- just sight seeing and mostly running to catch my next train. I'm already planning my next trip back!
One of my favorite things to do in my free time is visit art museums-- I've been to over 15 art museums!
My favorite people at my graduation!
