GRADING POLICY

for all Theatre Classes

QUIZ/REHEARSAL GRADE: 10-30 points- varies. (MINOR) Periodical quizzes will be given throughout the course. For each performance, there will be at least one rehearsal, but there may be more with the teacher. Students will be notified of which skills must be ready for the rehearsal. Other times, projects with certain skills will be assigned. Points will be earned by meeting the standards on a rubric.

PARTICIPATION GRADE: 20 points. (MINOR) Each week the student will be given points based on their active, constructive participation in class. If the student is not on task or is distracting other students, points will be deducted from his/her grade. A portion of the student’s grade will be based on the student’s entry in the Participation Log

JOURNAL ENTRIES: 10 points per entry. (MAJOR) Throughout the semester, students will write Journal Entries on a topic given by the teacher. It is a chance for the student to express himself/herself in an open forum. It will also be used to develop characters, create monologues, and/or evaluate performances and class projects. Grading will be based on self-expression, supporting details, and basic writing skills. (THEATRE 1 Classes Only)

UNIT TEST/ PERFORMANCE GRADE: 30-100 points. (MAJOR) Throughout the course, written tests and several performances grades or project grades will be assigned. A rubric will be shared with the student before the assessment occurs. At times, a critical or important rehearsal could be weighed as a major grade.

The formula for calculating the grade for each Nine Weeks is:

MINOR Points the student earned DIVIDED BY Total Possible MINOR Points =40% of Total Grade

MAJOR Points the student earned DIVIDED BY Total Possible MAJOR Points =60% of Total Grade

Final Grade calculation:

1st Nine Weeks = 40% 2nd Nine Weeks= 40% Exam Grade= 20%
