What is RTI?

The Slater Marietta Elementary School Response to Intervention (RTI) Reading Program aims to identify and support students who would benefit from additional small group reading instruction. A universal screening tool is used to evaluate the students, and the Literacy Team analyzes the data to determine who should participate. The selected students receive small group reading instruction, which may occur 4 or 5 days per week. The instructional program utilized is Reading Horizons, a comprehensive and interactive reading system that follows the principles of Orton-Gillingham. Reading Horizons focuses on explicit and systematic science-based phonics instruction. Throughout their enrollment in RTI, the students' progress is closely monitored, and instruction is continuously adjusted. Students may enter or exit the program based on their needs or progress throughout the school year.
