Student success starts with you! Thank you for your interest in and commitment to your student's academic achievement. I will do everything I can to help your student master the material covered in my class, and I look forward to working with you during that process. Please always feel comfortable reaching out to me about any issues or questions you might have. The best way to reach me is through e-mail at acatherman@greenville.k12.sc.us but you can always call me at 864-355-5568 (it will not ring into my classroom -- you will be diverted to voicemail).
This is where you can view your student's information including attendance, grades, lunch balance and test scores. Backpack will also be used school-wide this year to communicate with parents/guardians. Greenville High has created this webpage (and step-by-step instructions) to help you with the process if you have not created your account yet.
I also encourage you to take advantage of Google Classroom Guardian Reports which provide real-time information about your student's due dates, assignments, missing work, etc. If you would like to receive an invitation to be a guardian, please complete and submit this FORM.
Your student is aware the s/he can receive anonymous text message reminders about upcoming major assessment due dates by joining my Remind 101 class. If they have not signed up, you can ask them to join using the codes below. If you would also like to receive them, feel free to enroll yourself!
Join my Spanish 3CP class by texting
@spancath to 81010.
Join my Spanish 3H class by texting
@cathspan to 81010.
I will have communicated this ad nauseam to your student, but I would like you to know as well.
As soon as s/he feels like they are falling behind (no matter the reason), please let me know! I am available before school, during lunch and after school (a little more limited in the fall because of coaching). We will set up a time to work together one-on-one to make sure that s/he feels comfortable with the material. The most important thing to remember is that when it comes to struggling academically, getting help EARLIER is EASIER than later.
Students in my Spanish classes have very different backgrounds (in terms of where/when/how they took their previous Spanish courses), so they may be at a different level than other students right from the beginning. I understand that and will teach in a way that levels those experiences out as we progress, but it sometimes means that your student may have more "work" to do outside of the classroom (mainly studying). If there is any way that I can help facilitate that (study skills, tutoring, extra practice, etc.), I will as soon as it is brought to my attention. I remind students often to take care of themselves academically, which means speaking up! Encourage your student to take advantage of one of their best resources -- me!
