Expectations

My expectations for students (as I hope theirs are for me, too!) all revolve around everyone having integrity and respect. Learning a language is a very intense experience that involves making a lot of mistakes. We are going to be doing a lot of speaking and writing for practice, and I expect that my classroom will be a place that everyone can feel comfortable practicing their Spanish comfortably. Also, assessments will require speaking the language, so it is critical that students take every opportunity to practice! This comfort extends beyond speaking, writing and presenting in Spanish; it also means that we support each other on a human level as well.

While all of the school rules and regulations will be followed (check your student handbook if you have any questions or concerns), here are some specific things to remember for my class:

1. I will treat you with respect, and I expect the same behavior from you.
2. I will maintain a safe classroom environment free from ridicule, intimidation and aggression.
3. I allow students to remain in my classroom as long as they do not cause a problem for anyone in the classroom.
4. I teach and students learn when there are no distractions.
5. If you choose to cause a distraction, I will ask you to fix the problem.
6. If you can’t – or won’t – fix the problem, I will have to do something.
7. What I do will depend on the individual circumstance, but I will enforce all GHS policies.
