Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year! I'm very glad to have you in my classroom!
How to properly and safely handle laboratory equipment and materials, such as:
Glass beakers, test tubes, flasks, and other glass materials
Chemicals and their accompanying storage and use requirements
How to properly use laboratory safety equipment such as:
Fire Extinguisher
Safety Shower
Eye Wash
Fire Blanket
Lab safety practices and behavioral expectations
Atoms & The Nature of Matter
The Periodic Table and how it's organized
How to calculate number of Protons, Neutrons, & Electrons from the periodic table
How Valence Electrons contribute to an element's chemical reactivity
I hope you're ready to begin learning about all of the incredible processes that make our world and our universe work. One of the most important aspects of being in a science classroom is knowing how to safely perform labs, experiments, demonstrations, and how to properly use safety equipment if and when the need arises.
STEP 1: To begin, please watch the video below to be introduced to Lab Safety rules, practices, & procedures.
*** Students will need to be logged into their greenvilleisd.com Google accounts to view videos and complete assignments in Google Classroom.
STEP 2: Complete the "Mad Scientist Lab Safety" notes by using the slides below. Once you complete the notes, add them to your Digital Science Notebook.
Atoms are the building blocks of all matter (solids, liquids, & gasses). Everything that you can see, touch, and taste is made of atoms. Watch this video then proceed to the next step.
