Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year! I'm very glad to have you in my classroom!
Click on the link below to access the Student Safety Contract (by Flinn Scientific, Inc.). Parents and Student should read the safety contract through in its entirety. Parents and Student may then complete and submit the Google Form to agree to the safety contract.
*** Students, and parents, who do not complete and agree to the Safety Contract Agreement Form are not permitted to participate in in-class labs, experiments, or other activities where they are expected to adhere to safety standards and behavioral conduct. They will be provided with alternative tasks that meet the learning standards of the activity, but may not provide the same level of in-depth engagement and content mastery as the lab activity will. This is for the collective safety of all persons inside the classroom and outdoor locations when and where demonstrations, labs, and experiments will take place.
1. Follow the 8th grade handbook rules:
Bring all necessary supplies & materials to class each day.
2. Be respectful of yourself, your classmates, and your teachers:
As a Greenville Middle School student, you are expected to always behave as ladies and gentlemen; use mannerisms and language appropriate for school (do not use the language you talk to your friends). Hateful and disrespectful language will NOT be tolerated. Thank you in advance for cooperating with this rule. We want this classroom to be a safe, respectful, and enriching environment.
3. Do not disturb anything around the room:
This includes any lab equipment and experiment set-ups, any items on the tables, drawers, cabinets, and the teacher’s desk without permission. Do not CROSS the LINE PLEASE!
4. Come to class PREPARED with all materials and BE PREPARED TO STAY IN CLASS! This includes: chromebooks, pen/pencils, textbooks, homework, and earbuds for chromebooks.
5. Completing homework:
You will be assigned homework periodically, and when it’s assigned it is due the following day unless otherwise instructed. Cheating/copying will result in a zero for the assignment. There will be nine-week projects assigned most nine-weeks and these will need to be completed and turned in by the due date. You will be given plenty of time to complete these.
6. Missed work:
Most if not all work will be digital. We are using google classroom for ALL assignments and if you turn them in late or not at all IT will show, you must be careful and follow ALL steps to accurately turn in assignments. If you are absent you will be given three days to make-up work in this class if you are absent one day. For every day thereafter you will receive one extra day unless you have made prior arrangements with me. Each day the work is late beyond the time given; your grade will be lowered 10 points.
7. Follow directions:
Please listen when the teacher is talking. We do labs in this class and when you hear my voice you must give the teacher your attention, it may be crucial to your lab experiment being successful. PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND TO ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND. * For the 2020-2021 school year, we may have more demos than actual experiments depending on the pandemic and guidelines from TEA.
8. Lab safety rules must be followed at all times! NO HORSEPLAYING!
Students who choose not to follow the lab safety rules will be given an alternative assignment to be completed while the class continues with the lab experiment. *Depending on the pandemic and guidelines form TEA.
9. Conduct Grades:
Your conduct will remain an E (for excellence) unless you do not follow conduct rules. If you get a referral for something in class, it will lower your conduct grade one letter grade for each referral. IF I HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR SEAT BECAUSE OF BEHAVIOR, YOU WILL LOSE A LETTER GRADE EACH TIME I HAVE TO MOVE YOU!
10. Thank you for making smart choices ahead of time and keeping your dear teacher happy! I look forward to knowing each and every one of you individually and helping you to be successful!
Welcome to 8th grade science! I am excited about teaching you lots of new things that you don’t know about and helping to explain the things you do know about a little more.
