This winter, our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade social studies students will be working on an exciting Project-Based Learning unit called State Stories, where they become geographers, historians, storytellers, and creators. Students will explore one U.S. state in depth and uncover how geography, culture, and history shape the people who live there today.
Throughout this 6-week project, students will learn key research skills, collaborate across grade levels, and express their understanding through creative visual and digital products.
To launch our StateStories project, students planned a virtual road trip across the different regions of the United States. Along their journey, they explored major landmarks, important bodies of water, and key cultural sites in each region. This activity sparked students’ curiosity and helped them begin thinking about the incredible geographic and cultural diversity found across the country. It also built a strong foundation for understanding regional differences—knowledge they will continue to develop throughout the project. Check out their adventuring plans below!
