"Mutual Aid is a practice and politics that emphasizes solidarity rather than charity. It means we recognize that our well-being, health and dignity are all bound up in each other. It means that we understand our survival depends on cooperation, not competition" (#WeGotOurBlock)
Mutual Aid networks are opportunities to provide material support to each other. Within in our local communities are enough material resources and assets that can be reallocated to those who may need it. Drawing on historical models such as the Black Panther Party and contemporary Buy Nothing marketplaces, mutual aid networks provide an opportunity for neighbors, friends, and community members to give, receive, and exchange goods freely and generously and in a spirit of solidarity, compassion, and care.
We can support one another by reallocating, exchanging, and providing material support and resources to our neighbors, friends, and community members.
This free exchange of goods allows us to to reduce consumption and recycle goods in ways that meet each others' needs.
Participants are encouraged to give what they can and take what they need.
We are seeking any donations of household items (clothing, housewares, books, sports equipment, small appliances, etc.) in new or gently used condition. For a full list of acceptable donations, CLICK HERE.
Donations may be dropped off on most Fridays from 3 to 4pm at the driveway behind the Germantown Bank building on Schoolhouse Lane.
Volunteers will collect, store, and sort donations in preparation for the market on Saturday, April 11, 2026. (We need volunteers! To volunteer, CLICK HERE.)
On Saturday, April 11, from 9AM to 2PM, all donated goods will be available for free browsing and pick-up. The market will be set up on Schoolhouse Lane in the parking lot and in various designated areas on the GSFS school campus. Any leftover goods will be donated to local organizations for redistribution.
Help us spread the word to Germantown and all our neighboring communities! Use the link below to share in your networks, local storefronts, community boards, online groups, and other organizations.
