COURSE COSTS: There is a course contribution for this course of approximately $85. This will cover the cost of course material, and will be confirmed in 2027.
In this course, students will work towards the National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering. ThisĀ is an introductory qualification for secondary students interested in Mechanical Engineering or wishing to pursue a career in Maintenance, General Engineering, Marine and Fabrication, Machining and Tool Making.
The qualification is made up of three Level 1 Unit Standards, intended to provide students with a well-balanced, practical, and theoretical course that combines basic skills and knowledge.

Demonstrate basic engineering workshop skills under close supervision
Internal Assessment, worth 12 credits
Unit Standard 22924 v3
Develop a simple product using engineering materials
Internal Assessment, worth 10 credits

Demonstrate knowledge of safety procedures in a specific engineering workshop
Internal Assessment, worth 2 credits
