MEET THE COACHES
Head Coach: Jenny Wheatley
This year will be Mrs. Wheatley's 13th year to coach an archery team. This is the second year that we have had a 6th grade team. When the school district was changed and no longer had a middle school, this opened up the opportunity to have more students involved in the archery program. This gives more opportunities for more students to participate in more tournaments, and that is something that Mrs. Wheatley is passionate about. She loves archery because anyone can learn how to shoot a bow.
Archery is something that students can work hard at and learn how to be better and even practice at home. Archery gives students a chance to learn something that can later help someone else be better too. Mrs. Wheatley is motivated to inspire her students to be leaders inside and outside of archery. She wants the students to be able to develop confidence and see how their hard work can pay off.
My name is Matt Schoultz, and I have been an archery coach for the past three years. I got involved in archery six years ago when my oldest son joined as a 4 th grader. Never having been an archer myself, I did not know what to expect. I found the sport to be extremely fun and engaging and very difficult to master. An archer needs to be focused, disciplined, and patient. It is a great sport because just about anyone can participate, but only those willing to devote the time can master.
Archery is a great sport for students both young and old because its benefits are earned regardless of age. It boosts confidence and self-esteem, teaches responsibility and safety, fosters teamwork and social skills, develops goal-setting skills, builds physical fitness, and encourages inclusivity. If you are looking to get your child involved in a sport/activity that could benefit them for life, I would encourage you to consider the archery program at Glen Rose Schools.
