From the prompt they need to write a fiction and nonfiction- what we have practice for that is a narrative and persuasive piece
Here’s what I’ve found works really well with getting them on the right track:
-focus on themes and topics. Whatever they are writing, the prompts seem to centre around a topic, so they NEED to circle around to it in their writing.
They NEED to know how to edit their work.
Below are videos to assist and remind you what is needed for narrative writing
Use the website to find daily picture prompts and set a timer for one hour and practice writing
1. Start with your exposition (setting, time, main characters)
2. Introduce your protagonist and antagonist early
3. Add your stock characters where they fit naturally
4. Plan how your conflicts will unfold
5. Work towards your resolution
• Begin with "Once upon a time" or another traditional opening
• Use clear descriptions of your settings and characters
• Show both internal and external conflicts
• Include dialogue between characters
• Build up to an exciting climax
• End with a satisfying resolution
Does my story have a clear beginning, middle, and end?
Did I introduce my protagonist and antagonist?
Are my stock characters helping the story?
Can readers see both internal and external conflicts?
Does my resolution make sense with the story?
Did I include good descriptive words?
Does my story teach a lesson or moral?
Did I check my spelling and punctuation?
• Read your story out loud to catch mistakes
• Ask someone else to read your story
• Make sure your story flows smoothly
• Check that your characters stay consistent
• Look for places to add more details
