Ms. Arnesen's Counseling Page

My name is Tammy Arnesen. I have been a counselor in Granite School District since 2005. I currently work with the Freshman at Kearns High School, where I've been since 2019. I love meeting with students and doing what I can to help them find success and joy in the journey of High School.

The purpose of this page is to provide resources and ideas for students at Kearns High School who may need extra support. If you need more than what this page offers, please feel free to reach out to me at 385-646-6625 or tjarnesen1@graniteschools.org.

I will try to get back to you on the same or next day during the weekdays and on the next business day if you contact me on a weekend.

How's the school year going so far? We are almost to midterms. Are your grades what you want them to be? If not, now's the time to change them.

First thing I'd do is look at why you are not doing well. Is the class too hard? Are you not doing the homework? Did you not do well on a test? Have you been absent a lot? If the answer to one of these questions is "yes," what can you do to change it. Can you still turn in assignments? Can you re-take a test? Can you start attending more?

Secondly, talk to your teachers. Believe it or not, they want you to succeed and are usually very willing to help you.

Now's the time to take responsibility for your grades. If you can get them to a good point now, life will be much easier later on. It's always so much more work to have to catch up.

If you need help figuring out a way to raise your grades, come talk to me or send me an email (tjarnesen1@graniteschools.org). We can make a plan together and work to see improvement. I truly believe that every student at Kearns High School can be successful.
