Hi Parents,
Ms. Anderson was our VIP this week. Ms. Anderson brought her two corgi dogs for her Discovery Day today. We learned about the history of corgi dogs, drew a picture of a corgi dog and met her adorable dogs.
Next week is Dr. Seuss - Read Across America Week! We will be doing some fun reading and writing activities. Next week is also our school fundrasier week. We are trying to earn money to get enough smart viewboards so each classroom can have one. Top earners will earn prizes and top class will earn a party. If you can donate, please go to: https://www.getmovinfundhub.com/classroom-teacher-webpage/697104eeb1fec9.27918544
Next week we will have a student teacher join us from UVU. Please welcome Ms. Peoples who will be doing her field placement with us for the month of March and then will rejoin me in the fall for 12 weeks of co-teaching first grade.
Next week we will be working on all the jobs of /-y/ in our phonics and phonemic study and how it can make different sounds depending on how many syllables the word has such as baby (2 syllables - the y makes the long E sound) and sky (1 syllable -the y makes the long I sound).
Next week, we will start a book study on The Moon That Seems to Change written by Franklyn M. Branley. We will start learning about the moon and predict patterns of the moon's appearance and motion in the sky. We will learn that the moon changes shape (phases) in a predictable cycle, as it appears to move across the sky, and is a rocky object.
In Math, we will start learning to add with two-digit numbers by first beginning to add a one-digit number to a two-digit number and then build on the concept of adding two digit numbers together with no regrouping.
Wednesday will be our last Jr. Achievement lesson with Mr. and Mrs. Clark. It has been so fun learning about the importance of our families, communities, and different jobs and how interdependent we are on each other. It definitely takes a village and I'm so grateful for mine.... that is all of you! Thanks for all you do to support me and our class.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Love,
Mrs. Baxter
