EVENTS
Teams
Every team will compete in exactly 5 events. Team competes for medals in each event. Teams also generate points for their school to earn the trophy. Teams that don't earn medals may still generate trophy points.
Each school may bring up to 5 teams. Each team will consist of 2 to 4 students. Each team must consist of 50% (or more) females and/or students of color.
Scoring Notes
1. 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place Medals will be awarded for each event.
2. When it comes to scoring, High School teams only compete against high school teams and junior high teams only compete against junior teams.
3. The trophies will be awarded to the GSD Junior High & High School clubs that accumulate the most points as follows:
Event #1: Popsicle Stick Bridge....... GREEN Room
Use math and science to implement engineering concepts in the design and construction of a model bridge from your own plans that will carry a maximum load while using as few craft-sticks as possible.
Develop neatness, craftsmanship and creativity.
Event #2: Egg Drop Vehicle............ BALCONY (Blue)
Create a vehicle to drop an egg from the balcony and hope it survives.
This year we are largely replicating the Physics Day Egg Drop Event.
Event #3: Write it, Do it!............ YELLOW Room
Half of the team is given a design made of various blocks and shapes. Then they, write instructions for how to create that design.
The second half of your team, uses the written instructions to rebuild the design.
The rebuilt design is scored based on accuracy.
Event #4: Tangrams............ ORANGE Room
Tangram is an ancient Chinese puzzle game of special reasoning.
Students will be given a set of 7 flat shapes, which they will use to recreate specific shapes.
Points will be awarded for speed.
Event #5: Mystery Event............RED Room
No rules will be published before MESA Day.
All teams will compete in this event.

Event #6: Product Pitch for NEDC.......PURPLE Room
Use the national competition rules. We're only doing the Product Pitch at MESA Day.
Product Pitch Presentations will be stopped at exactly 10 minutes due to time constraints.
Bring your working device and poster.
Bring your presentation on a thumb drive in either PowerPoint or PDF format.
There is no guarantee of WIFI access.
