Purpose: Summative Assessments
Measures student proficiency toward grade-level standards at the end of instruction
Can be used to evaluate the efficacy of instructional programs
State required and State reported
Given once a year (Spring)
For 6-8 RISE ELA Benchmarks:
Teachers can use the RISE Benchmarks as a grade as long as they follow the information below:
RISE Benchmarks could be used as evidence showing the student's mastery of a standard.
Teachers must keep in mind the PBL criteria when using RISE Benchmarks to grade a student- meaning that an end percentage score cannot be used, but a teacher could look specifically at questions that provide evidence of the student demonstrating a level of proficiency and place that proficiency score in gradebook.
The teacher must look for a particular question or questions that meet the standard proficiency criteria, etc.
As with the RISE Summative, teachers must offer a comparable opportunity to show proficiency to students who have opted-out as well.
