The purpose of ACT Prep is to increase student awareness of the importance and significance of preparation for improving their ACT college entrance exam score. Students will become more confident of their ability with various concepts and relationships of the four areas tested by the ACT (Mathematics; Science; English; and Reading). Students will learn how to think systematically and use the precise logic required for solving typical problems found on the ACT exam. Active involvement in and successful completion of the course should lead the student to greater confidence and higher scores on the ACT exam.

This course is designed for students who have been identified as needing additional support to be successful in their regular education classes. Emphasis will be placed on social skills, organizational skills, test taking strategies, effective note taking, vocabulary development, self-advocacy, time management etc. The review of essential concepts and skills from general education classes will also be emphasized.
It is a college and career readiness course for students in the academic middle (2.0-3.0 GPA) who have the desire to go to college and are willing to take rigorous classes. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academic elective course that prepares students for college readiness. AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. Each week students receive college preparatory curriculum provided by AVID Center, tutor-facilitated study groups, motivational activities and academic success skills. In AVID students participate in activities that incorporate strategies focused on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading to support their academic growth.

This course develops oral, reading and writing communication skills for students at beginner English levels. This class focuses on English social and instructional language in academic settings, developing foundational literacy and conventions skills, interpreting and expressing information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success. Students may have varying levels of academic proficiency in their primary languages.
