Welcome to the 2026-27 school year at Woodstock Elementary! 

This year will the fourth and fifth grades classes will continue with our grand adventure in learning as we at Woodstock build on the successes of our rotating class structure. Our intention is to help both fourth and fifth grade students learn and thrive in their education, particularly targeting reading and writing. This year we will be adding extra supports in math, particularly, supporting students' fast-fact knowledge of multiplication and division.

The fourth and fifth grade teachers will be continuing our rotation-model plan in which each teacher will be responsible for one component of your students' curriculum: reading, writing, math, science and social studies.  Each teacher will still have a dedicated homeroom class assignment, but our goal is give students to the ability to learn from teachers that will be masters in their domain, and within a variety of environments to help students stay engaged.

Again, I will be responsible for the science curriculum for all fourth and fifth graders. I am looking forward to hands-on learning for all my students with many opportunities to build and explore the physical and natural sciences.  Also, I will be encouraging my students to participate in the science fair in January, to spark their personal interests in science.

And this year's school theme is all about the Suess!  Oh, the places we'll go in our learning. We will all learn a thing or two along the way.  So, here is to a new school year!

A note about the importance of regular school attendance

A school year, at the beginning, seems to be an unsurmountable amount of time.  The days seem to draw themselves out with no sense of urgency, weeks blur together as teachers and students come together in the daily ritual of going to school.  But, the time spent in class, with peers and teachers, is of crucial importance to the success of the lives of all our students.

We know the imporatnce of family and the needs that can arise that may require students to stay home from school. But, it is equally important to recognise that regular attendance is pivitol in your childrens' learning.  It is vital for them to regularly be present to for instruction and class activites as to not miss new concepts being taught, and the ongoing support to help them retain new knowlege.

Much of what we do in class cannot be replicated easily at home.  The daily practice of writing in Ms. Chester's class and reading with Ms. Schieb, the engaging math support from Ms. Axtell and Ms. Benware, and the hands-on learing the students do in Mr Foust's science class to put ideas into observable experimentation.  These lessons and activities are crafted and implemented to give your children the most engaging learning environment possible.  Even one day absent will mean that a student will not get to share in the learning with their friends and peers, to be a part of the fun that can happen everyday in school.  It also means the time outside of school will be required to try to get them caught up on missed work.  Not fun!

So, myself and all the teachers here a Woodstock earnestly encourage and implore you to make sure to get your children to school on time, everyday.  We know that you have a lot on your plate to take care of; let us support you and your families by taking care of your children for a few hours of the day.
