Do you think we should have earbuds and phones at school?

A lot of people would like to have earbuds and phones at lunch, because they like to listen to music at lunch and because if they are by themself they could go on their phone or have their earbuds in if they like. If students are going outside, they should be able to be on their phone and have earbuds. The reason why is because that is like our break and we should have at least our phone. Also, what if something happens and we need to call someone or if our mom or dad calls us and says something?
It is true there can be a lot of problems as well with phones, like they can start a lot of drama with students. Students can gossip, saying “she said this” or “he posted this about me.” The principal said phones are not allowed because class is the time to learn, but we didn’t ask about lunch time specifically.
We think a good compromise that should happen, and others think we should have, is that we should have phones and earbuds at lunch. We should maybe also have them if we are all done with our work and have nothing missing, but it has to be okay with the teacher. Another option would be PBIS rewards, so students can buy phone time for 75 points or something like that. This could help students be good in class and get all of their work done in classes so they can use their earbuds or use their phone.

How art can actually help you in school and life

Did you know art can be frowned upon when you do it in class but in reality it can help you? When doing art, it can bring a smile to your face and others. Ms. Springer (a school counselor) says “[one benefit of art is] visual beauty that we see something, almost all people stop and look at it for a minute, you know the picture, the clay piece, and they look at the beauty and [think] ‘oh that's really neat’ and it kind of makes you think and then relax.” Art is anything you can draw or paint or even doodle.
Ms. Brenneman, the art teacher at Kennedy, says, “I do feel like art has a kind of a calming effect on the students when they come into the classroom. For the most part a lot of students come into art to kind of just have time to relax and express themselves.” This shows teachers can see this change in students when they do art.
The last interview we have is with a fellow student to see their opinion. They say, “you can do it [art] in so many forms, you can draw anxiety, depression, embarrassment, all that type of stuff and it just makes you feel a little better. It’s like venting but not talking.” This student helps us understand what they feel is helping them.
So if you feel stressed or worried, try out drawing or doodling and you will most likely feel so much better.
