The Special Education Resource Program serves kindergarten through twelfth grade students who require additional support in academic subjects. This program provides targeted instruction in core academic areas, tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals. The curriculum is aligned with the Utah Common Core standards, with appropriate modifications and accommodations to ensure accessibility for all students.
Students in the resource program participate in regular education classes alongside their peers, receiving support from special education staff as needed. This inclusive approach helps students develop essential academic skills while fostering social integration. The program is designed for students with diverse learning needs who benefit from individualized instruction and support. Progress is monitored regularly through a variety of assessments to ensure each student's success.
The Applied Academic classes are designed for students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade with average or low average ability but significant deficits in reading, math, and/or writing.
In Applied Academics (AA) classes the emphasis is on addressing ability/achievement gaps through accommodations and adaptations, not modifications. These students are included in general education classes with accommodations based on student IEP goals. These classes focus on intensive remediation (Tier III) of achievement deficits in the Utah Core Standards, as well as strategic instruction to support independence and problem solving. The students in AA classes participate in Standard Assessment.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) classes focus on explicit instruction in academics, expected behaviors, and social skills for students from kindergarten to twelfth grade. These students require functional behavioral analysis and behavior intervention plans. These teachers provide intensive remediation of behavioral and achievement deficits Students in these classes have access to regular education classes with behavior supports and accommodations, if necessary, based on student progress in IEP goals and behavior plans. Theses students are taught Self-Regulatory strategies to support independence and problem solving. Students are provided with academic instruction in the Utah Core Standards and are provided Standard Assessments.
Essential Elements (EE) classrooms are designed for kindergarten to twelfth grade students who require direct instruction in functional academic, adaptive, behavior, functional communication, life skills, social skills, and independence skills. There is an emphasis on modified academic instruction which is based on the Essential Elements of the Utah Common Core. The students in these classes have access to regular education classes and peers with accommodations and modifications. These classes were created for students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (SCD). The students in EE classes are assessed through Alternate Assessments.
