Instructions for Gathering Kindergarten Milestone Data


Letter Names and Sounds (Assess by November 1st)

Display the student materials:

⚬ No sound-spellings or pictures attached to the letters. 

⚬ You can use materials from the beginning of the Kinder Assessment Book. 

⚬ Sounds can be in upper and lowercase letters together. 

• Pause for up to 3 seconds on each letter to allow for a response.

⚬ If the student does not respond within 3 seconds, proceed to the next letter.

⚬ Do not discontinue; keep going to each letter.

• Accommodations (student must have an IEP or 504 with the accommodation listed)

⚬ Students who are nonverbal:

■ You can prompt, “Point to the letter when I say the name."

■ Use the same materials used with other students.

• The school literacy coach will report the results by Nov. 1st.
