9th Integrated Studies - This seminar class meets every other day in the fall or spring. It will either alternate with another course or the student will gain a study hall on the "off" day. This is only open to HAL students. This course focuses on readying a student for high school by setting short and long-term goals and emphasizing the importance of being a part of the school community through various clubs and organizations. This class also emphasizes their critical thinking and problem solving skills through various activities.
10th-12th Integrated Studies - This seminar class meets every other day in the spring. It will either alternate with another course or the student will gain a study hall on the "off" day. This is only open to HAL students. This class is similar to the 9th grade course in that it also focuses on students' critical thinking and problem solving skills, but it goes further by having units on leadership skills, standardized test preparation, and college planning.
Academic Decathlon - In this interdisciplinary course, students will examine a single, broad concept/theme and its relationship to mathematics, science, economics, social science, literature, music, art and the connectedness of knowledge. Students will gain practice in independent and self-directed learning and in taking multiple choice exams. Members of the Gretna High School Academic Decathlon team may be selected from the class and two Saturday competitions are required.
Lunchroom Jeopardy/Quiz Bowl - This is a nontraditional course that meets over the student's lunch period and there is no pre-registration required. Students are invited to sign up for "Jeopardy" teams at the beginning of the semester and will compete on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays throughout the course of a semester. Further, any student is welcome to bring their lunch in on Tuesdays and Thursdays for quiz bowl practice.
