The Elementary Library Program at Gretna Public Schools' goal is to encourage the love of reading and learning in all students. We work towards this goal in weekly library classes through literacy lessons that introduce students to books and authors and skill lessons that teach students to use both print and online resources. These skills will be practiced through a variety of activities and research projects facilitated by both the librarian and the classroom teacher.

The quantity and type of books available to students at any given time is as follows:

  • Kindergarten: one picture book

  • First grade: one picture book

  • Second grade: two books

  • Third Grade: two books

  • Fourth grade: two books

  • Fifth grade: two books

All checkouts are for a duration of two weeks, although most students will check out at least once weekly.

No fines will be issued for late returns. However, if a book is damaged or lost, a replacement fee will be assessed.
