Students in the yearlong English I course will read a variety of texts such as I Am Malala, Romeo and Juliet, The Odyssey as well as other plays, short stories, and poems. They will complete various written assignments that connect the literature to current issues as well as their own personal experiences. Students will learn a range of skills that will assist them in other academic classes, college, and future employment opportunities. Yearlong courses are designed to build a foundation of basic reading, writing and critical thinking skills as well as prepare students for high stakes tests.

The main goal of this course is to develop critical thinking, reading, vocabulary, and writing skills through literature and current topics as well as create lifelong learners. Over the course of the semester, students in CP English II will read a variety of texts such as Night, Antigone, The Things They Carried, and a few short stories and plays. They will complete various written assignments that connect the literature to current issues as well as their own personal experiences. Students will learn a range of skills that will assist them in other academic classes, college, and future employment opportunities.
Over the course of the semester, we will read a variety of texts such as Night, Antigone, The Things They Carried, and a few short stories, poems and plays. Students will also partake in choice reading; choice reading will give the students opportunities to read texts of their choosing per approval. They will complete various written assignments and participate in thought-provoking discussions that connect the literature to current issues as well as personal experiences. Students will learn a range of skills that will assist them in other academic classes, college, and future employment opportunities.
Students will be exposed to a variety of test-taking strategies as well as intensive practice in literacy. This will prepare students for different tests (ASVAB, ACT, SAT, PSAT) that are required in order to fulfill the state testing requirements for a high school diploma (this has been waived by the state for 2020-21). Due to the requirement being waived by the state, this course will also focus on reading and writing skills you will need for college and career readiness.
