Pierce Middle School is the school building that Beatrice primarily supports. She is a clumber spaniel and a certified therapy dog through Alliance of Therapy Dogs and her nick name is "Bea". Her handler is Christina Michaud, who is the library paraprofessional at Pierce.Â
Bea's role at Pierce is to spread joy! She is with her handler all day, so wherever Christina goes, so does Bea. Sometimes this dog therapy team is outside before the bell rings to greet students or then they wait in the hall for the kids to come inside in the morning, just outside the library door. They can be found in the halls delivering books to classrooms and/or visiting the office each time Bea is in the building. Sometimes they make unannounced visits to classrooms and the teachers very much love the distraction! . If classrooms want to schedule a day where they come in, they do that too! They also have some students to come read to her to aid in reinforcing reading! When in the library, Bea greets students when they enter.
