The Michigan Department of Education and Grandville Public Schools values and celebrates the linguistic and cultural diversity in our community, and also wants to recognize the language skills of students who complete extended sequences of world language study, as well as those whose native language is other than English. The MDE Seal of Biliteracy aligns to the goals and strategies of Michigan’s Top 10 in 10 endeavor.
The Seal of Biliteracy is an endorsement on students’ high school diplomas that indicates an ability to read, write, and speak in a language other than English.
Receive a high school diploma, a high school certificate of completion or a high school equivalency certificate
Demonstrate Intermediate High proficiency on acceptable world language assessments or pass a world language College Board Advanced Placement (AP) exam with a score of 4 or higher.
Meet the English Language Arts requirements for graduation: successful completion of 4 English Language Arts credits or demonstrate proficiency on a validated test of proficiency for English Learners
