HOW TO JOIN BAND

This is information for the 2025-2026 School year! SAVE THE DATE! Our instrument testing date is August 6th, 2025

1. Sign Up to TRY the INSTRUMENTS on August 6th:

   • Students will not be placed on a band instrument and in a band class until they try out the instruments at Reagan Middle School. 

Instrument Selection

Hello future Reagan Band Families!

We are excited for your upcoming band journey and cannot wait to meet you all soon! Please use this website as a reference to learn about the various instruments we teach and how we help match each musician with the perfect instrument match for them!

If you are ready to be a part of the Reagan Band, all you need to do is sign up for Band and we will take care of the rest. Students should come try all the instruments with one of our band directors. Students will be paired with instruments based on their interest, physical characteristics, and attributes through the instrument selection process. If you have any questions regarding the instrument selection process or the Reagan Band program, please do not hesitate to contact us at rachel.milton@gpisd.org

School-owned instruments will be distributed once we are back at school next fall and we have been given the okay to do so. School-owned instruments include the Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Euphonium, and Tuba. Instruments that families will need to rent or purchase from the music store are the Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion; we have a limited supply of school owned instruments of these.

**Please hold off on purchasing or renting an instrument until you have heard from us about what instrument you will learn next year.  Once we have placed your child with their instrument, they can begin gathering the necessary supplies to have a successful year. We recommend local music company Music and Arts and others on the supply sheet. The supplies you’ll need for each instrument can be found on our band website!

Music and Arts has worked with us to make your supply shopping easy. Please check out their website for this and let us know if you have any questions.

On a personal note: Please do not let money stop your student from becoming a Reagan Band member! We are passionate about exposing students to the wonderful world of band and are willing to do whatever it takes to help a highly motivated child become a part of our band family. If the music stores cannot work out a payment plan that works for you, or if any other special arrangement needs to happen, please contact us directly. Ask us – we can help!
