The 7th grade was a very different experience compared to all of my previous school years. Due to 6th grade coming to an abrupt end and Covid taking place, the school year started very late and the schedules were completely different. Along with this the students would have to wear masks and social distancing had taken place in order to try to put an end to the spread of the virus which was the main factor as to why everything was different. All of these abnormal things led me to find many strengths and weaknesses that I never believed I had.
Class would start much later than it normally would and class would be fully online. This is where I found a weakness I didn’t think I would have. I found out that one of my main weaknesses when doing online school was that I get distracted very easily. I would get distracted extremely easily causing me to lose focus which led to me doing really poorly in school. I also struggled due to the school giving the teachers bad microphones making it really hard to hear and understand the teacher. Thankfully I was able to switch to in-person school and start doing better. Although I was doing better I found that I had gotten significantly worse at writing. I quickly started to work on getting better and looking for ways to improve. In the end, all of the work paid off and I started getting good grades on writing assignments. Even though I was doing good, I would get very stressed whenever it would come to testing. I would become scared that I wasn’t ready for the test and that I would fail. In order to relieve my stress, I would start studying the night before so I would feel prepared. Although the stress wasn’t a good feeling, the studying it had me do was a huge help towards my grades.
Despite my weaknesses, I also found a few strengths that I had such as math and science. I found out that I was actually way better at math and science than I was at writing and reading. I still believe that I can get better at writing and reading and it is something that I plan on improving on for next year along with doing things to help get rid of the stress I receive from testing.
My interests haven’t changed much from last year. I am still really into playing video games along with baseball. I am now into keyboards and things that are more mechanical such as engines but besides that my interests are still the same.
Although this school year was tough it still had its moments where we had fun activities that made school fun. Despite these fun times they were something that was very rare. Besides that I am happy that I am now becoming an 8th grader and I am very happy to get past this year full of craziness and see what the future has in store for the 8th grade.
