Students are enrolled in 10 courses for each semester (fall and spring). Students attend classes based on an A/B schedule (5 classes each day). Below is an example of courses taken as a freshman. There are some situations which may cause a change in course selections such as sports, band, and student specialized courses.
Algebra or Advanced Geometry
Biology or Advanced Biology
English 1 or Advanced English 1
World History or AP Human Geography
Physical Education (PE) credit (can be earned via sports, marching band, and ROTC)
Fine Arts credit (Band, Choir, Art, Theater Arts, Dance)
LOTE (Language Other Than English - Spanish or French)
Career & Technical Education Course (CTE) - Based on the selection made with their 8th grade counselor.
Career & Technical Education Course (CTE) - Based on the 2nd CTE choice or availability.
Career & Technical Education Course (CTE) - Based on the 3rd CTE choice or availability.
Freshman orientation is August 9, 2025 from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Information was sent to all parents and currently posted on the campus website. Once the new school year begins, all new students receive a campus tour by one of the Counseling Department Ambassadors.
Student schedules will be visible in Skyward on Friday, August 8, 2025 at noon. Once the school year begins, students and parents can view the schedule in the Skyward Student/Parent portal.
Students can request a schedule change from August 20-28, 2025. After these dates, no schedule changes will be honored. Please note: schedule change requests are not guaranteed and are based on class availability.
Although we aim to get students enrolled in their preferred courses, it does not always work out. Courses that are in high demand will not have enough class seats for every student. This is why during registration, students are asked their 2nd and 3rd choice for courses.
Example: There are 300 course requests for welding. North Shore 9 welding class has 150 available seats. The scheduling software will randomly schedule 150 students in the course. The remaining 150 students will be placed in their 2nd or 3rd choice.
Unfortunately, not. Students must keep their schedules as-is for the first week of school. This allows the district and campus to complete TEA required tasks such as enrollment verifications, PEIMS reporting, and other administrative tasks.
Students will have a short window during the 2nd week of school to request changes based on availability.
We are so excited to have you at North Shore 9. Once the transfer is complete and your information is in our system, a counselor will contact you or your parent to discuss course options.
Enrollment in advance courses is based on mastery of state assessments and teacher recommendations. Please contact your child's current teacher to discuss their current academic performance and their recommendation. The teacher will need to email the Associate Principal of Curriculum & Instruction at marneaud@galenaparkisd.com.
Yes, it is a high school graduation requirement.
Some students who have taken Digital Art & Animation in middle school may already have a fine arts credit. If this is the case, the counselors will attempt to add another course (CTE or elective) that will be geared towards the student's career interest.
