The Medical Assistant program allows you to learn the curriculum and hands-on skills necessary to sit for the Medical Assisting certification at the end of the school year. Students will need a state or government issued ID in order to take the certification exam (please try and get this during the summer before school starts.) We will cover general patient care, EKG's, phlebotomy, infection control, and various other subjects. This course requires all students to follow OSHA guidelines for dress code, which may differ from Galena Park ISD dress code. All students will have to perform the hands-on skills necessary to sit for the certification. Labs are a required part of this course and must be completed in order to take the certification exam.
During the spring semester each student will sit for a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification exam through National Health care Association (NHA). Upon completion of this course and passing of the certifications, all students are eligible to apply at any health care facility as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (All students will hold a probationary license until their high school diploma is sent to NHA, must be submitted with 12 months of testing). The exam has 150 questions and is subject to be taken on our campus or testing center.
