Jasmine Vela was born on April 1, 2013 in Houston, Texas. She is the eldest out of her and younger brother, Jayden who is two years younger than her. She was born with an eye that wasn’t properly developed. Because of this, Jasmine had her eye taken out and it was replaced with a prosthetic.
Jasmine is interested in things like music, history, and books. Her favorite genre of songs is mainly pop and rock, and her favorite genre of books are dystopian and mystery. In her free time, she likes to read, write, and and sing. She has been in choir since 4th grade and has fell in love with it ever since. Music has always been an interest for her, so she joined band and plays the alto saxophone. She joined jazz band in seventh grade, and learned a lot more about different styles of music.
Jasmine is an ambitious, stubborn girl and has been in gifted programs since she started kindergarten. She learned how to read at a young age and ever since, reading has been a huge part in her life. She's very competitive so she joined UIL teams as soon as she was able to. Her most recent win was in 6th grade. She won first place in the social studies division and second in writing.
Jasmine is the type of person to believe if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. That’s why she has always been planning for the future. When Jasmine graduates school, she wants to become a pediatric ophthalmologist and study at Duke University. She wants to be an ophthalmologist for kids because of her own eye condition. To accomplish this, she plans to focus on her grades, primarily science and math. When she wants to achieve something, she makes sure it is going to be achieved.
In summary, Jasmine is a girl who’s creative, loves literature, loves music, and tries her hardest to accomplish everything she attempts.
