WHAT PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS?

​ MECA (MODIFIED EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY)

MECA is designed to provide our students with the ability to graduate with their associate degree while they are graduating from high school. Students attend classes at San Jac every day for the first two classes of the day. They resume a typical high school schedule around 10:30 am. Because those in MECA are full-time college students, participation in this program will takes dedication and excellent time-management skills. 

Qualifications for this program:

• Complete Advanced Algebra II by the end of 10th grade

• Pass the TSIA (college entrance placement exam) in math and ELAR or make a 4000 (Meets) on the STAAR English II EOC to waive TSIA ELAR

• Complete required documents the Spring of Sophomore year

• Begin the program the summer before Junior year ​

• Maintain a "C" or higher in all courses

ACADEMIC DUAL CREDIT

This program is designed to allow students to begin their high education and graduate high school with roughly 24 semester credit hours (SCH), which are all transferable to any public institution in the state of Texas. Sophomore and junior classes are held on the high school campus, while seniors travel to San Jacinto College North for their courses.  ​Thanks to a scholarship from GPISD, students can take up to two courses each semester for $52 each. 

Since San Jac doesn't typically have class on Fridays, our Sophomores and Juniors get the opportunity at the end of each week to work on their homework, study for college entrance exams, and learn about the college admissions process with their academic advisor. Seniors are welcome, but are not required, to report to Friday study hall. However, they must check in on three designated Fridays throughout the semester during their scheduled class time.

Qualifications for this program:

• ​Maintain a "C" or higher in all courses

CTE TECHNICAL DUAL CREDIT

This program is designed to help students obtain a workplace certificate in a specialized field. Students in this program spend the first two or last two periods of their school day at San Jacinto College and complete their core classes in their remaining periods. Students must purchase the tools to practice in their field, but their classes and textbooks are paid for by Galena Park ISD. By the time these students graduate from high school, they will be prepared with enough hours of training to sit for the state certification exam. 

Qualifications for this program:

• Complete required documents the Spring of Sophomore year or junior year (depending on the program)

• Meet age requirements for practicing in the field and taking certification exam

Will these credits transfer to a university?

Yes! We have an academic advisor well versed in higher education transfer options. Also if you would like to research you can use the Texas Common Course Numbering System. 

Can I take extra courses to get more college hours?

Yes! We have a bunch of courses students can begin taking junior year at San Jacinto College to get even more done.

Can I do academic and technical dual credit? ​

Yes! We love to have students in both programs.

HOW DO I ​GET MY G NUMBER?

San Jacinto College should send you a "Congratulations!" email about 48-72 hours after you submit your Apply Texas application. If you do not receive the email, follow these directions to claim your G number. 

1. Go to https://www.sanjac.edu/soslogin.

2. Click the + next to New Students.

3. Click claim your account. Fill out the info exactly like it is on your ApplyTexas application.
