As the school year started in 2019, we were all expecting a normal year. I was very excited about not leaving for another school for Encounters. Having more time to work on projects and really enjoying building bonds with my teacher and classmates. As the year progressed we continued to work on projects like the number bursts, started our research paper, and our paper maché cars. It was also very nice not having to go to a different campus for Encounters because you wouldn’t have to worry about missing the bus, you had the class every day which meant more time to perfect our projects, we had more opportunities to have good communication with the teacher, and really being able to exercise our brains in a different way.
Although Encounters was always a huge part of the things I enjoy at school, other classes like social studies, athletics, science, were also some of my favorite classes. Math class was probably at the top of my list not because of the subject because I hate math, but because of the teacher. The way he taught really helped me learn things and understand them, he had a bond with all the students, he was always very chill and fun. It was also the year I was able to do sports, so athletics was really an outlet for me to have fun and get some exercise. I did volleyball and basketball and they really helped me get through the year. Although practices were very dreading sometimes, the bonds I had with the coaches and players were very special to me. Besides athletics, another one of my favorite classes was social studies. But this time it was because of the teacher and the subject since social studies is my favorite subject. The teacher also had bonded with all the students, therefore being able to teach and have fun at the same time.
It was all fun and games until it was the last week before spring break. We were very excited to go on break but because of Covid, we ended up having a seven-month-long spring break. Since we had to be online, finishing off the year was sorta difficult. Not being able to see my friends, go to my favorite classes, do extracurricular activities definitely took a toll on me and for sure everyone else also. Although it was for the sake of our health, we were all down in a way. It was very hard, but school started again and we are very blessed to be able to go to school and be safe.
